Intelligence (3276304) Senior Managing Director, Systems and
Business Intelligence - ( 3276304 ) The Senior Managing Director
(SMD ), Systems and Business Intelligence is a senior-level
management position within the Massachusetts General Hospital
Development Office. The SMD leads and is accountable for
Development Services, Information Management, and Prospect
Management and Research, ensuring strategic integration of these
business functions and strengthening the data and technology
infrastructure they collectively manage. Indirectly, the SMD helps
strengthen connections with teams across the department, ensuring
the department is leveraging data consistently and creatively to
make strategic business decisions, such as priority setting and
resource allocation. The SMD is a strategic partner across teams in
developing, implementing, and refining systems that support varied
and evolving business needs across all constituencies (i.e.,
donors, faculty, hospital and lay volunteer leaders, Development
staff, etc.). The SMD works collaboratively with their peers to
solve organizational challenges, which may extend outside their
defined areas of responsibility. The ideal candidate for this
position is an energetic, highly motivated, results-oriented, and
facts-driven team player who excels at working collaboratively with
a variety of constituencies. They will have a sophisticated and
comprehensive understanding of Blackbaud CRM and other
best-in-class technologies that support and advance fundraising
goals. They will have a broad and comprehensive understanding of
complex systems and a creative approach to leveraging data to solve
challenges. Further, they will have a sophisticated understanding
of HIPAA and experience navigating and ensuring compliance with
this law within a development setting. They will also have a solid
understanding of "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles" related
to philanthropy. They will have a collaborative and collegial
leadership style, and be comfortable working in a complex
environment and navigating an ever-changing landscape. Overview of
the Organization Massachusetts General Hospital was established to
provide care to Boston's sick, regardless of socioeconomic

accomplishments. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES General: -The SMD is
responsible for advancing the strategic visions of the department
and the teams under their purview, optimizing data and technology
and helping lead and support the department in making strategic
business decisions. They are also responsible for ensuring strong
systems that support work across teams, including prospect
identification and assignment; prospect management policies and
pipeline management; and gift processing and donor stewardship. The
Senior Managing Director leads the teams responsible for the
following areas: - Development Services: Oversee all aspects of
gift administration, ensuring efficient gift processing and
compliance with industry and regulatory standards, and lead the
Management Committee on Gift Acceptance. - Information Management:
Oversee all "knowledge management" functions in advancement of
fundraising goals, including Blackbaud CRM database and all
marketing technology solutions. - Prospect Management and Research:
Oversee all prospect management and research activities and
policies. Specific: -In consultation and/or collaboration with the
Senior Vice President, Vice President, fellow Senior Managing
Directors and other colleagues as appropriate, the Senior Managing
Director will: Senior Management - Play a leadership role in
strategic planning for the department to develop and implement
strategies to sustain a $550M three-year rolling average
post-Campaign, including the evaluation of enhanced technologies
and business practices
- Partner closely with business partners across the hospital and
Mass General Brigham system, including the Enterprise Development
Office, the Enterprise Architecture Committee, etc., to:
- Understand policy changes and how they will impact Development,
and lead the communication/change management around these changes
within the department
- Advocate on behalf of the department's unique business needs o
Ensure the seamless integration and compliance of development
activities with other functional areas in the hospital and system
- Oversee the Management Committee on Gift Acceptance on behalf
of the department and hospital, in close partnership with the Vice
President, Senior Vice President, and other hospital and
system-level leaders. Oversee related reporting and recommendations
to the Trustee Naming and Gift Acceptance Committee
- Attend regular meetings of the Co-Chairs of Philanthropy
- Attend regular senior management team meetings and engage in
healthy and productive discussions on department issues, working
toward consensus
- Serve as a thoughtful leader and advocate of managed teams,
including identifying, developing and retaining the next generation
of leaders within the department - Contribute to and enhance a
culture of aspiration, innovation, collaboration, accountability
and transparency - Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity,
inclusion and belonging - Oversee the budget for managed business
units and ensure fiscally responsible budget management - Follow
all office-wide, hospital and MGB policies and processes on gift
acceptance and campaign counting, expense approval, performance
reviews, performance management, prospect management, and other
areas
- Take on other office-wide duties at the request of the Vice
President or Senior Vice President
- Adhere to the mission, credo, and standards of behavior of
Massachusetts General Hospital Development Services: - Oversee the
Senior Director, Development Services and all aspects of the
hospital's gift administration according to state and federal
policies, regulations and laws concerning charitable gifts - Foster
a culture of continuous improvement, including providing strategic
oversight of the "Gift Lifecycle" project to bring the gift booking
form online, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of this
process and ensuring a timely and optimal start to donor
stewardship - Maintain a strong working partnership with Mass
General and MGB Finance departments on all aspects of gift
administration and financial reporting - Enhance connectivity
between Development Services and Donor Relations, in partnership
with the Senior Managing Director and Managing Director for Donor
Relations, to ensure the highest levels of customization and
service to donors Information Management: - Oversee the Managing
Director, Information Management and all strategy and activities
related to the Blackbaud CRM database and all business intelligence
activities in support of fundraising efforts including reporting,
analysis and modeling, as well as marketing technology
- Oversee the technical direction of all use of appropriate
fundraising applications and the adoption of best practices for
database administration and application functionality and the
management of other technologies related to support of the
hospital's fundraising operations - Oversee management of the
department's marketing technology stack, including web and
ecommerce platforms, best in class third party software solutions,
marketing automation solutions, digital advertising solutions and
the integration of these systems and integrations to the
Department's CRM
- P articipate in governance discussions related to MGB-wide
Blackbaud CRM, as needed
- Oversee the vetting of new technology requests through the
Enterprise Architecture Committee
- Oversee and enhance all Tableau dashboard reporting across
Development business needs (e.g., revenue, activity, budget, etc.),
ensuring strategic and consistent reporting and analysis Prospect
Management and Research: - Oversee the Managing Director, Prospect
Management and Research and overall strategies and guidelines
related to Prospect Management and Research - Advance the strategic
vision of the Prospect Management and Research program,
collaborating with senior management in setting policy, refreshing
prospect identification and prospect management strategies as
appropriate, tracking fundraising activity and reporting needs -
Oversee all aspects of the department's compliance with HIPAA
regulations, including response to inquiries/requests, advising on
Development communications with patients, access and exchange of
information with internal and external parties - Oversee the due
diligence research process and the preparation of reports and
recommendations for the Management Committee on Gift Acceptance and
the Trustee Naming and Gift Acceptance Committee. QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience This position requires a bachelor's degree
and at least 15 years of development experience, including a
minimum of 10 years of management experience, demonstrated success
managing a team and a history of professional growth within a
large, complex organization. The successful candidate will possess
acomprehensive understanding of philanthropy information systems,
prospect management and gift administration. Development experience
in a health care setting preferred. Additional skills and
competencies include: - Proven ability to lead and inspire
high-performing, self-directed teams, expanding capacity and
strengthening performance while preserving cultural attributes and
innovating as needed - Intellectual capital and stature to build
alliances with the various constituencies of Mass General and Mass
General Brigham - Comprehensive knowledge of gift processing
operations and IRS policies related to charitable giving
- Experience with relational databases, report writing, Blackbaud
CRM, or other complex donor information systems packages
preferred
- Ability to develop and clarify business requirements and
specifications for system related projects and ensure that business
needs are met in an efficient manner
- Advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, 2012
Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and other third-party software
preferred - Familiarity with privacy-related rules and regulations,
including HIPAA - Proven leadership abilities including building
relationships with diverse groups within a complex and/or highly
public organization - Team player and consensus builder with a
