Surgical experience in an inpatient setting License: Active RN
license required Certifications: ACLS certification preferred
Must-Have: Experience caring for patients after vascular, thoracic,
colorectal, and general surgery Experience with chest tubes, tubes,
and medication drips such as diltiazem, heparin, Lasix, insulin, or
amiodarone Experience with lines, tubes, drains for post-surgical
patients Experience with tracheostomies, laryngectomies, telemetry,
complex wounds Experience with central line care and maintenance,
and blood draws Description: This position requires experience in a
surgical unit. The assignment is for medical-surgical nursing only.
Candidates must have surgical experience. The unit has 32 beds and
typically cares for post-surgical patients. Common diagnoses
include ARDS, esophagectomies, whipples, and sepsis. Patient ratios
are 1: 7-11 for nursing assistants. Registered nurse patient ratios
are 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night. Travelers may be required
to float to other areas as needed. On-call duties may be required.
