Job Purpose

In this role you will lead the US Business Resilience and Emergency Planning Services team. The team will ensure Group resilience and continuity policies and frameworks are embedded in National Grid US at all levels of leadership by providing direct support to US functions, jurisdictions and line of business in order to implement, maintain and keep to the forefront our resilience and continuity arrangements. This role is also responsible for providing guidance and direction to gas and electric emergency response support teams within Emergency Planning and coordinating implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of National Grid resilience and continuity of operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading a small team of Business Resilience and Emergency Response experts.
  • Development and execution of the US business resilience strategy aligned with National Grid global policies, building on the current foundation with an aspiration to become industry leading.
  • Partnering with internal and external organizations to build resilience capabilities.
  • Providing expert Business Continuity and Resilience advice, overseeing the development and implementation of best practice testing and exercise planning of resilience and continuity arrangements in place utilizing a continuous improvement approach.
  • Leading the development, delivery, implementation and updating of tools to support the resilience function.
  • Motivating and energizing leaders at all levels across the organization to take full accountability for Business Continuity and Resilience in their parts of the business.
  • Leading the maintenance and improvement of key Emergency response processes and tools such as Emergency Response Assignment Database, Training development and delivery as well as tracking, Administration and implementation of key tools/technology such as First Responder application.
  • Developing and participating in business disruption preparedness exercises at all levels across the US Business
  • Providing assurance of compliance with and maturity the level of, the Group Business Resilience and Continuity Policy to senior leadership.
  • Developing and driving effective communication campaigns related to resilience and continuity development, implementation and training.
  • Developing talent, managing and reporting on performance, effectively managing the budget for the team.
  • Remain knowledgeable of current trends in resilience, key threats and hazards and provide situational awareness to the Emergency Planning leadership team.
  • Performing or coordinating horizon scanning activities, and consideration of emerging risks and how they may impact National Grid US processes and operations, reporting of such, to internal stakeholders.
  • Representing National Grid on forums and at associations specifically related to resilience and continuity.
  • Staying up to date with current trends in resilience and continuity practices and provide insight to relevant stakeholders.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Build relationships and influence at a very senior level to ensure delivery of the company's vision for reliability and resilience and ensure the embedding of resilience.


Desired Skills:

  • Track record of planning for or responding to Emergencies
  • Ability to interpret policy and procedures for the business to understand and implement
  • Experienced in leading team of subject matter experts
  • Effective Stakeholder management
  • Experience in managing complex multi-disciplinary projects and programs
  • Solid understanding of principles in leading through change and change management skill and experience
  • Learning and continuous Improvement mindset Ability to prepare and present Executive and Board level proposals
  • Good Microsoft Office skills such as SharePoint, excel, word and power point


  • Degree in Business, Engineering or Emergency Preparedness, advanced degree such as MBA or master's in emergency planning is desirable
  • Minimum five years of experience leading or managing others
  • Minimum eight years of experience managing projects and programs
  • Certification or formal education in Business Continuity Management is a plus
  • Knowledge of PAS200/ISO22301 or other related standards is desirable
  • Experience of policy implementation and delivery
  • Experience developing and implementing a communication strategy
  • Experience implementing organizational change management, would be advantageous.
  • Experience of supporting a global / regional organization
  • Knowledge of business resilience & continuity policy framework or ISO 22301
